Supervisor Responsibilities & Orientations

When completing clinical placements, your Preceptor is considered your Supervisor.

At the beginning of your rotation at a new location, you will be given an onsite safety orientation specific to that location. You must follow the Health Authority and site-specific safety procedures.

After your orientation you should know where to find:

  • Your supervisor’s contact information
  • Safety program components and procedures
  • Information on potential hazards of a workplace and any site-specific ‘need to know’ information
  • Emergency evacuation procedures and First Aid contact information
  • Working Alone policies

Each of your clinical rotation placements may have its own unique safety procedures specific to the facility and to the Health Authority that governs it.

Differing safety procedures from site to site do not make one location safer than another.

In the event of a workplace emergency, ensure your supervisor is informed. If your Preceptor is off-site, contact an alternate supervisor on-site so they can remedy any hazards and ensure you receive any follow up care required, then let your Preceptor know.
